Q: Why do I have to sign a contract if its free?
There are several reasons we must have a signed contract. It provides the electric delivery company proof that we had permission to do your home, provides them with proof that we completed our services and if applicable, provides the electric delivery company proof of income eligibility (low income only).
Q: Why didn't I receive lightbulbs and/or showerheads?
A. It could be a few reasons. You must meet the income eligiblity requirement. A major measure such as duct, infiltration or ceiling insulation must pass the post test. There are times throughout the year where funding for the lightbulbs and showerheads are unavailable. The water heater must be electric for us to install showerheads. If you are a Texas New Mexico Power customer they do not provide funding for lightbulbs or showerheads under their program.
Q: Why didnt the crew install bulbs in this room or closet? What about outside?
A: We are restricted to install lightbulbs only in areas where the lights are on for at least 3 hours a day. The bulbs do not work on dimmer switches. Closets lights are not typically on for three hours a day and do not qualify. Under the program guidelines we cannot place more than 3 bulbs in hollywood type fixtures in bathrooms or install bulbs outside.
Q: Can I move the locations of lightbulbs?
A: No, we have to report the location of the bulbs to the electric delivery company, if they inspect the home the bulbs must be where they were reported.
Q: Why didn't the crew do anything in my home?
Under the program we have to follow guidelines set by the electric delivery company. Under these guidelines it may not cover the duct system setup. Issues like broken windows or missing sheetrock prevent us from getting a reading and we must report a beginning reading. Or our testing indicates your home is already efficient.
Q: My friend had more work done at his house than my house...Why?
A: All homes and circumstances vary from homeowner to homeowner. When we perform the test it let's us know how much work needs to be done to your home. We do everything we can, within the guidlines, to make it as energy efficient as possible.
Q: Why do I have a large bag full of empty insulation bags in my attic?
A: The bags are left in the attic so the utility company can verify the number of bags installed, if you are called upon for an inspection. You may throw it out after six months of installation.
Q: Can I tell my friends and neighbors about this program?
A: That is how we get more customers is from you. Please tell everyone you know to call in and see if they qualify for the program.
Q: If I dont qualify for your free service, can you do it for me for a fee?
A: All our work is free...You may call the office and we can look at it on a case by case basis.
